 “Face to Face with Death

(John 11:1-44)

I. Dealing with the reality of death. (vs. 1-16)

A. We need to see death through the lens of Jesus. (vs. 1-4)

B. We must learn to interpret God’s love through our circumstances. (vs. 5-7)

C. Jesus’ goal in our suffering is that He would be glorified and that we may believe. (vs. 8-15)

II. Dealing with the finality of death. (vs. 18-37)

A. Jesus loves us enough to bear our true feelings. (vs. 18-22)

B. Jesus wants us to see His glory through our difficulties. (vs. 23-27)

C. Be comforted to know that Jesus hates death as much as we do. (vs. 28-35)

III. Experiencing victory over death. (vs. 38-44)

A. Our victory comes when we believe in a person and not an event. (vs. 38-43)

B. The story of Lazarus is a picture of our salvation.

C. The story of Lazarus is a foreshadowing of what Jesus would do on Resurrection Sunday.
